I've adopted Epson's Legacy Fiber Matte as my new default paper for the 3880. Was introduced to it at the John Paul Caponigro [http://bit.ly/2zwfaGJ] workshop I attended earlier this year. At first I dismissed the matte paper as too flat and absorbent. Bought a box and now I'm hooked. You never do know what will come out of a workshop like JP's, and I sure didn't see this coming. Love it.

Found myself out at Marshall Light on the St George peninsula the other morning. A camera bag was sitting at the bottom of the steps, and then I spotted the owner, who was from Florida, huddled in the chilly doorway of the building. He was up for a relative's wedding in our former town of Warren. We had a great talk about 4x5 film cameras and the state of the art. Hope he got some killer images. Nice meeting you Dave.
Didn't know where the JP Caponigro workshop would take me, and wasn't disappointed in the surprise. Not a permanent direction, I don't think...perhaps a detour. In anticipation of a workshop with JP Caponigro next week...here is a sample of this summer's direction so far...can't wait to see where things go from here.Lots going on with the move of course. Haven't been shooting much lately. Leica is in for a quick repair and everything else is packed.
This photo was made on Halloween 2004. Yes, almost 12 years ago. What are the odds that I could have located this negative from that long ago, still in original condition, back in the film days? Slim to none I figure. If not published or otherwise preserved for posterity it would have been gone forever. I've been making a list of observations lately...here are two: 1) I miss film and fixer, mechanical cameras, enlargers, and the days when technical know-how was needed to make it all work. 2) However, I’m dreadfully allergic to the chemicals now, and also revel daily at how the digital workflow allows me to get a print that reflects exactly what I saw in my mind’s eye. |
"Sometimes I feel like the world is a place I bought a ticket to. It’s a big show for me as if it wouldn’t happen if I wasn’t there with a camera."
