Had a great time celebrating Halloween in a coastal Maine village yesterday. The rainy weather and low clouds only added to the spooky atmosphere. The community here really comes out for holidays, especially those centered around children. How nice to meet so many kind and interesting neighbors.

So, forgive this please. I'm rebooting my social media presence, and this is mainly a test.
Fall is in full swing here. Our generator failed on start-up last storm, and we were without for four days. The new unit goes in on Tuesday, which is great news. The kitties are having a great time with Fall hunting, the boy thrives, and a trip to the Grands is planned for mid-November. :) Traipsing amongst the rocks at Marshall Point, and came across this character. What a gift. His name is Clyde, and he was the sweetest man. Fun evening. Never know who you're going to meet. :)
This 12 frame composition was a serendipitous image prompted by my young son.
We'd been out to a waterfront restaurant which was about to close for the season. On the short drive home he said 'can we go by the lighthouse?' 'Of course', I said, and this image is the result of that five minute turn to the right. Ah, the little detours in life that make all the difference! So sorry to hear of Jessye Norman's passing. I had the great honor of photographing her at a DC event in 2011.
What a wonderful presence. She will be missed. Late summer and early fall are fair time here in the States. The harvest is coming in, animals are trained and groomed, and a summer's worth of hand crafts are on display.
I love shooting at fairs in a 'street photography' style, but usually in the late afternoon and evening...not only for the more interesting angle of the light, and all the color temperatures, but also in order to be a bit less conspicuous. However, we chose to take the boy to his first fair at mid-day. I think the new camera and tiny kit zoom lens handled the bright noon sun quite well. [GX85, 12-32mm f3.5-5.6] Beautiful full moon on Friday the 13th this month. Took this photo off of Hart's Neck, St George, Maine last nite. Wonderful.
Took some photos again at this year's Classic Yacht Regatta in Newport. Been a few years. Amazing how different the sky and water can be year to year. Always a treat to be out on the water, especially with the estimable Onne van der Wal
This was my first major shoot since moving over to the micro 4/3 sensor format. I carried my usual two-body outfit, one with a long lens and the other with a wide angle. In fact, the new outfit very closely mimics my old full-frame Canon system...the long lens is a 50-200mm [100-400mm-e] mounted on a Lumix G9, and the other is an 8-16mm [16-32mm-e] on a GX85 body. Both lenses are of the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit f2.8-4 variety. I found the cameras very light and easy to handle. With the long lens things seemed to 'jam up' a bit writing files when shooting bursts. Not sure what that was about, and it could have the been the lens or the camera body at fault...both are brand new. I'll have to keep an eye on that. Another observation was a much shorter battery life than I was used to with the Canons, especially with the GX85. But I had anticipated this and had two spares for each body, so no issue. These shortcomings and any others are more than offset by the light and easy handling, and the fact that I'm not shooting on any sort of deadline. I love being able to take my time and just enjoy the day. What fun! My latest contribution on dearsusan.net. Link here.
Been playing around with a rental Lumix G9 this week. Nice camera. We'll see if it ever needs to be added to the stable. :)
